Explicit Teaching

All classes follow the ‘Explicit’ teaching model in literacy and numeracy instruction. This is based on the following philosophy:

  • The teacher is accountable for learning
  • Learning is dependent on the building of effective relationships between teachers and students
  • Teaching is explicit (step-by-step instruction) and fast paced
  • Knowledge is moved from short term to long term memory
  • Detailed tracking of student progress

Literacy and Numeracy lessons follow a format that includes:

  • Warm Up – review of previous learning
  • I Do – teacher instruction – new concept/skill introduced
  • We Do – practise examples together
  • You Do – independent practise
  • Plough Back – review of what we have learnt
