Explicit Teaching
All classes follow the ‘Explicit’ teaching model in literacy and numeracy instruction. This is based on the following philosophy:
- The teacher is accountable for learning
- Learning is dependent on the building of effective relationships between teachers and students
- Teaching is explicit (step-by-step instruction) and fast paced
- Knowledge is moved from short term to long term memory
- Detailed tracking of student progress
Literacy and Numeracy lessons follow a format that includes:
- Warm Up – review of previous learning
- I Do – teacher instruction – new concept/skill introduced
- We Do – practise examples together
- You Do – independent practise
- Plough Back – review of what we have learnt
